Grant Anderson, professor, presented "The Impact of Iron Deficiency on the Thyroid Axis During Brain Development" as part of the University of Minnesota Department of Medicine Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism seminar series held January 12, 2017, in Minneapolis, Minn.

Jacob Brown, assistant professor, presented "Pharmacogenomics of Psychiatric Medications" at the Minnesota Society of Health-System Pharmacists  (MSHP)-Arrowhead Meeting on January 19, 2017, in Duluth, Minn.

Kerry Fierke, assistant professor, and Gardner Lepp, education program specialist 2, led a workshop on "Engaging Students: Leadership and Professionalism in Today’s College Classrooms" for faculty at the University of Hawaii at Hilo on January 4, 2017.

Michelle Johnson-Jennings, assistant professor, received a $175,567 subaward from  Florida State University for the project, "Intertribal Talking Circle for the Prevention of Substance Abuse in Native Youth.”

The following posters were presented at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Midyear Clinical Meeting held December 4–8, 2016, in Las Vegas, Nev.:

  • Y. Wei, H. Chang, Danielle MacDonald, adjunct assistant professor, and Keri D. Hager, assistant professor: Drug Therapy Problem Identification and Resolution at Duluth Family Medicine Clinic.
  • E. Grafton and Hager: Comparing First and Third-Year Family Medicine Residents’ Perceptions of Collaboration with Pharmacists at the Duluth Family Medicine Clinic.

Paul Ranelli, professor, and SAPH graduate student Alyssa Bortz were quoted in the December 1, 2016, Minnesota Daily story, "Mixed Blood Theater and U's pharmacy school stage play about healthcare."

Ranelli, Bortz, and Jon Schommer were featured in the November 29, 2016, Duluth News Tribune's "Health Notes: The play's the thing."

Mark Schneiderhan, associate professor, was featured in the December 13, 2016, AHC Health Talk story, "Increasing Naloxone’s Accessibility, as the Drug Marks One Year in Minnesota Pharmacies."

Randy Seifert, senior associate dean, testified at the December 6, 2016, Legislative Health Care Workforce Commission at the State Capitol regarding the College of Pharmacy’s community engagement and efforts in mental health.

Yao Yao, assistant professor, gave an invited talk "The Role of Pericyte-derived Laminin in Blood Brain Barrier Integrity" at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Meeting: Blood Brain Barrier held December 7–10, 2016, in Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.
