Kerry Fierke, associate professor, presented "Navigating the Wilderness: Tales of Leadership" as the keynote speaker at the MPhA Leadership Summit and House of Delegates Meeting held June 12, 2019, in Roseville, Minn.

The following were presented at the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Annual Meeting held July 13-17, 2019, in Chicago, Ill.: 

  • Fierke, G. M. Zumach, J. L. Sobotka, A. S. Bzowyckyj, K. Jones, A. N. Crowl, and E. C. Portillo presented the poster “Innovative Virtual Symposium: Connecting Leaders Across AACP.” 
  • J. Moon, J. Lounsbery, Sarah Schweiss, assistant professor, and A. Pittenger presented the poster “Mapping Postgraduate Year-one Pharmacy Residency Graduation Standards to the Core Entrustable Professional Activities.”
  • Keri Hager, associate professor, Grant Anderson, associate professor and department head, J. Chen, C. K. Frail, K. K. Janke, A. Schullo-Feulner, S. Westberg, and B. Zordoky presented the school poster “Integrating the PPCP Across Clinical, Basic, and Social Sciences Using the “IESA” MTP Assessment Framework.” 
  • J. Cooley, Hager, S. Trovinger, and J. Wheeler (moderator) presented “Tackling PPCP Challenges: Tactics for Engaging Preceptors through the Pharmacists’ Patient Care Process.”
  • T. Tran, A. Muzyk, G. M. Baugh, Laura Palombi, assistant professor, [Hager, pinch-hitter], and L. G. Hill presented “Successful Attributes of Interprofessional Education in Substance Use Disorder.”
  • V. Arya, S. Shrader, A. Alexander, J. Novatt, S. Meyer, and Paul Ranelli, professor (moderator), presented “Using the Arts and Humanities to Develop and Enhance Student Communication Skills and Empathy.” 
  • Tim Stratton, professor, and D. Baker (moderator) presented Ethical Dimensions of the Prescription Opioid Abuse Crisis.

Hager presented "Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT): Getting People the Help They Need" to Itasca County Health and Human Services on July 10, 2019, in Grand Rapids, Minn.

The following were presented at the UMDF Mitochondrial Medicine 2019 Conference held June 26-20, 2019, in Arlington, Va: 

  • Nam Chul Kim, assistant professor, presented The PINK1/Parkin Pathway Mediates Dominant Mitochondrial Toxicity in CHCHD10-induced ALS-FTD.
  • Y-J. Choe, post-doctoral associate, Minwoo Baek, research specialist, and Kim presented the poster The PINK1/Parkin Pathway Mediates Dominant Mitochondrial Toxicity in CHCHD10-induced ALS-FTD.

Meg Little, assistant professor, was accepted to the American Holistic Nurses Association Research Committee whose goals are to foster the growth of knowledge and expertise in individual holistic nurses and in the organization, and prepare holistic nurses to utilize and conduct holistic nursing research.

M. D. Johnson-Jennings, D. R. Jennings, and Little had their article, “Indigenous data sovereignty in action: The Food Wisdom Repository” published in the Journal of Indigenous Wellbeing. Te Mauri - Pimatisiwin. 2019 Jul 28;4(1):26-38.

Palombi, A. N. Hawthorne, A. Irish, E. Becher, and E. Bowen had their article, “One Out of Ten Ain’t Going to Make It: An Analysis of Recovery Capital in the Rural Upper Midwest,” published in the 2019 Journal of Drug Issues.

Ranelli has been appointed to the 2019-20 AACP Council of Faculties Nominating Committee.

D. R. Kennedy, T. K. Harrell, N. M. Lodise, T. J. Mattingly, J. P. Norenberg, K. Ragucci, Ranelli, and A. S. Stewart (review) had their article, “Current status and best practices of shared governance within US pharmacy programs,” published in the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education. 2019 (online, prepub). 

A. Cernasev, W. L. Larson, T. Rockwood, C. Peden-McAlpine, RanelliOlihe N. Okoro, assistant professor, and J. C. Mike Swanoski, associate professor and senior associate dean, participated in a live interview on SiriusXM's Doctor Radio for a June 27, 2019, segment on managing multiple medications safely. He also took calls from listeners.
