KUMD’s Student Takeover

"The Basement" celebrates ​​College Radio Day on Friday, November 4

Student DJs will be spotlighting the music from The Basement throughout KUMD daytime programming from 8am and 3pm. The Basement playlist includes hip-hop, indie rock, punk, electronic and more. 

KUMD’s College Radio Day celebration also features ticket giveaways to see Atmosphere in their Freshwater Fly Fishermen Tour joined by Brother Ali, Dem Atlas of Rhymesayers and others performing in Duluth on Monday, November 28 at Clyde Iron Works.  The Basement is proud to present this Atmosphere hip-hop show.

Before and during the College Radio Day, The Basement DJ’s and KUMD marketing students will be playing music and giving away prizes on UMD campus, to raise awareness of the value of college radio.

ABOUT COLLEGE RADIO DAY: This is an annual celebration of college radio by stations around the country and around the world.  The contributions of college radio stations to the education of college students everywhere is immeasurable. Students volunteer hundreds of thousands of hours to make great broadcasts for their communities, peers and college institutions.   

ABOUT KUMD and THE BASEMENT: KUMD 103.3 FM ​was founded in the UMD dorms by students in 1957. The station now broadcasts 95,000-watts of stereo sound across the Northland, reaching listeners up to a 60+mile radius from Duluth. KUMD’s programming is also available live on the internet, attracting listeners from over 40 countries. The Basement is KUMD’s student run radio, airing between 9 pm and 3 am. The Basement features a variety of music genres and shows, from indie rock to hip-hop. KUMD’s The Basement is created by over 100 dedicated students working in different areas of radio throughout each year.
