Uncovering the Past

Deborah Petersen-Perlman discusses her research of the Japanese internment camp at the Gila Indian Reservation.

UMD's Alworth Institute and the Baeumler Kaplan Holocaust Commemoration Committee will host a talk by Associate Professor Deborah Petersen-Perlman, UMD Department of Communication, on Thursday, April 5 at noon in the rotunda of the Kathryn A. Martin Library. This event is free and open to all.

Petersen-Perlman will discuss research she's done at the Arizona Historical Society on the Japanese Internment Camp at the Gila Indian Reservation. Specifically, she'll talk about what ephemera found in the archives--letters, memos, high school annuals and "newspapers"-- says about organizational structure and social issues in the camp. She’ll also talk about some of the challenges she’s encountered in doing this research.
