Dennis Falk Receives Award

The University of Minnesota 2017 Award for Global Engagement was presented to UMD social work professor.

The University of Minnesota Duluth is proud to announce that Dennis Falk, Ph.D. is one of three 2017 recipients of the 12th annual “Award for Global Engagement."

UMD Professor Dennis Falk
This award is a University of Minnesota-wide recognition of outstanding contributions to global education and international programs at the University or in their field or discipline. In addition to honoring individual faculty and staff members, the award — by identifying excellence in global engagement and by recognizing outstanding work — serves as a resource and inspiration to other faculty and staff.

Dennis is a Distinguished Teaching Professor of Social Work Emeritus in the UMD Department of Social Work. David Beard, Associate Professor of Rhetoric, Scientific and Technical Communication, nominated Dennis for the award. Professors Bill Payne and Ryan Goei, along with former Vice Chancellor for Academic Administration Vince Magnuson, wrote letters of support. They all had high praise for Dennis. David says, "Denny's work in internationalization has transformed the campus, the system, and the national conversation."

The award states, "Professor Dennis Falk has dedicated his academic career to teaching courses from a global perspective and to promoting global engagement at the University of Minnesota and nationally. His tireless commitment over his 42 years at the University of Minnesota earned him respect and recognition from his colleagues."
