Jensen, an economics and political science double major, presented at the 2018 Midwest Economic Association Annual Meeting from March 23-25 in Chicago, Illinois on a joint paper she co-authored with LSBE faculty in the Department of Economics: Professor Bedassa Tadesse, Ph.D., Assistant Professor Ariuna Taivan, Ph.D., and Associate Professors Neil Wilmot, Ph.D., and Luiggi Donayre, Ph.D.
Jensen is working on having her paper, “Do Immigrants Increase Unemployment of U.S Citizens? An Empirical Examination of Trump's Campaign Rhetoric” published. Read about Jensen’s research conclusions here.
“Doing this research enhanced my education more than I can describe,” said Jensen. “I learned how to be even more self-motivated, how to stay focused, and to always have my end goals in mind.”
Jensen and Maschhoff, who recently graduated, both participated in the 2018 National Conference of Undergraduate Research from April 4-6 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Jensen presented highlights from her paper mentioned previously in this article. Maschhoff, a double major in accounting and economics (BBA), presented on the topic “Impact of Earned Income Tax Credit on Female Labor Force Participation Rate: Analysis of Rural vs. Urban Counties.” Read about Maschhoff’s research conclusion here.
“I participated in the UMD VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program,” said Maschhoff. “I found that many families heavily depend on the EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit), something I was unaware of. Conducting research allowed me to use skills that I honed in my LSBE classes and incorporate them into something that I am truly passionate about.”
Jensen and Maschhoff, who are International Economics Honor Society Omega Delta Epsilon members, graduate this spring. Jensen plans to apply to law school in the fall. Maschhoff landed her dream job of being a financial analyst at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, where she interned last summer.
