Ellie Mercil to Receive the Ken and Diana Risdon Scholarship

ELWS student, Ellie Mercil, receives the Ken and Diana Risdon scholarship.

Writing Studies undergraduate major Ellie Mercil has been selected to receive the Ken and Diana Risdon Scholarship from the College of Liberal Arts. This scholarship carries an award in the amount of $1,000 to be given over the 2020-21 academic year.

This scholarship celebrates students with a commitment to professional writing, with an interest in the ways that technology can be used in writing. Mercil, a double major in History and in Writing Studies with a Certificate in Museum Studies, exemplifies such a student. Her interests in merging writing with public history, in using the diverse technologies of museum exhibits, and in using the diverse media of public relations to reach new audiences make her the kind of student that this scholarship is designed to celebrate.

The Program in Writing Studies is especially appreciative of her internship work helping UMD prepare to celebrate its anniversary. For an example of her work, see Aftermath of the 1918 Fire
