Several faculty from the Department of English, Linguistics, and Writing Studies (ELWS) will lead presentations at the Lake Superior Summit for the Teaching of Writing and ESL. The 6th Annual Conference, “Engaging Students in a Polarized Nation," will be held on Friday, March 1, 2019.
- Assistant Professor Chris Godsey will present on "Appreciating Outcomes."
- Assistant Professor Emily Woster will present and lead a panel on "The View from the Writing Center."
- Instructor Lindsey Jungman will present on "Busting the myth of objectivity: Helping students recognize implicit biases"
- Former UMD Writing Program graduate instructor, now LSC faculty member Blair Powless, will lead a discussion on "Balancing multiple perspectives: Are you qualified?"
- Associate Professor David Beard and LSC Librarian Kate Vo Thi will present on "Board Game Design in the Writing Classroom"
The Summit was conceived in 2014 by a group of area writing instructors wishing to meet their colleagues at various educational levels and across states in the Northland. Its purpose is to bring together teachers of writing and literacy to exchange ideas, best practices, common challenges, and innovations in the teaching of writing, whether academic, creative, professional, or otherwise.
