Ecuadorian Women's Cooperative Visits UMD

A group of women from the Ecuadorian Mega cooperativa de Saraguros, a cooperative of women artisans, visited the UMD campus in September.

Their visit was organized by anthropology professor David Syring and provided several opportunities for students in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures to hear from these artisans and entrepreneurs.

They spoke to a Cultural Entrepreneurship class taught by Professor Aparna Katre and a Latin American Studies class taught by Professor Jennifer Gómez-Menjívar, as well as in an open session for Hispanic Studies and Latin American Studies students.

Students were able to see the beautiful beadwork created by the women and hear about the challenges and opportunities of their lives in Ecuador.
