Associate Professor Jill Doerfler and Assistant Professor Rebecca Webster, both in the Department of American Indian Studies, contributed chapters to The Great Vanishing Act: Blood Quantum and the Future of Native Nations, which was published in August 2017 by Fulcrum.
Editors Kathleen Ratteree and Norbert Hill gathered an impressive group of scholars, creative writers, and policy makers from across the globe to write essays examining the legacy of blood quantum, biological and cultural metaphor of blood quantum, and “Indian” identity.
Doerfler’s essay is “’Making Ourselves Whole with Words’: A Short History of White Earth Anishinaabeg Tribal Citizenship Criteria.” Webster’s essay is “Reconsidering Blood Quantum Criteria for the Expansion of Tribal Jurisdiction.”
