COIL: Connecting with Mexico Online and On Campus

October 24-25, Hispanic Studies and Latin American Studies will be hosting a guest from Mexico.

Damián Martínez Villatoro, an English Professor from the Autonomous University of Chiapas, Mexico, will be visiting campus as part of a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) project with Andrew Snustad in Hispanic Studies.

On Monday, October 24 at 1pm in the Garden Room, there will be a COIL Community of Practice Meeting and Presentation. The two professors, who met at a COIL workshop in Cuernavaca in June 2016, will discuss the specifics of their cross cultural collaboration, which engages their students in a series of cultural conversations that culminate in a virtual translation project.

On Tuesday, October 25 at 2 pm in EduE50, Professor Martínez Villatoro will give a talk about the educational system and culture of this strongly indigenous region of southern Mexico. Both events are open to the public.
