Beer and Bots

Bringing Robots and Funny People Together, for Science

Come to Bent Paddle this Friday, October 21, from 5 - 7 pm for our first Beer and Bots event, where we are collecting jokes for automated robotic healthcare aids to use to provide humor to elders in care.

These robots were created by Dr. Arshia Khan, professor of computer science at the University of Minnesota Duluth's Swenson College of Science and Engineering. Her programmed robots connect with nursing home residents through a fantastic array of sensors, human-like gestures and conversation–including jokes. But the feedback is that computer programmers aren’t the best comedians.

Watch Pepper's invite message here.

Dr. Khan’s work has made international news for her groundbreaking research, which has been featured by CBS News, NY Times, NPR, and Science Times, to name a few.

While her robots are already connecting with nursing home residents across Minnesota, this is one of the rare opportunities to interact with these robots in public! So bring your best jokes to share!

"A robot rolled into a bar..."

Be part of society’s transformation and peek under the hood (or peer into a computer) to see how robots are programmed by coming to Beer and Bots. Join us from 5 - 7 pm on the 3rd Friday of the month through the end of the year to drink beer with these famous robots!

C’mon, it’s for science!
