Find Out What It's Like to Study Abroad

 There will be a Study Abroad Panel on Wednesday, November 7. Guests will be able to talk to returned students about their experiences.

The panel will take place in the Griggs EF conference room from 5 pm to 6:30 pm. It will be an informational and fun event, filled with personal stories about going abroad. Free pizza will be provided on a first come first serve basis.

Five returned students from different programs will make up the panel:

  • Christopher Timm - UMD Short-term Language & Culture in Spain - Salamanca

  • Andy Hilfers - Worcester, England - University of Worcester

  • Marlys Pilarsky - Perth, Australia - Curtin University

  • Jack Jenson - Prague, Czech Republic - Charles University

  • Samantha Kaiser - Salamanca, Spain - Universidad de Salamanca

Each student will give a short presentation about their time abroad. There will be a Q&A session and a time where guests can speak one on one with the panelists. 

Topics may include:

  • How to choose the right program
  • Tips for saving and budgeting money
  • Dealing with homesickness
  • Culture shock
  • Foreign cuisine
  • Travel stories
  • What to pack

This event is perfect for anyone starting to think about studying abroad. The panelists will be ready to answer any questions about going abroad!

If you have any questions, please stop into the Study Abroad office located in 138 Kirby. Drop-in advising hours are Monday through Friday 10-11 am. Be sure to attend Study abroad 101, a presentation by a returned student covering everything you need to know from applications to financial aid. Study Abroad 101 takes place every Tuesday and Wednesday at 12 pm.
