New Look = Better System

More recycle and compost bins are being installed to reduce the volume of trash.

Here at UMD, it's a collaborative effort to make our waste sorting system as simple and easy to use as possible for students, faculty, and staff. Facilities Management is adding more recycle and compost bins, reducing trash bins, and is supporting the debut of new instructional signs near each bin.

In the next few days, Facilities Management staff and students will plaster the posters around public areas, such as hallways, lounges, and study areas.

Posters

Print the new signs for your office to help us cover more of campus and increase our rates of getting the 'Right Thing in the Right Bin'.

Magnets

We also have magnet versions of the posters. First priority for magnets is for shared spaces where sorting bins are co-located, such as a lunchroom, copy room, or conference room. If you would like to request a set of magnets for a shared space, please email [email protected]

Magnets for individual offices will be provided after shared spaces are supplied and until the remaining quantities are exhausted.

Reminders

1.) To request a confidential materials collection bin (for shredding) or other bin needs, please email [email protected]

2.) UMD uses centralized collection for waste, recycling, and compost. This means YOU are responsible for emptying your desk-side trash, recycle, and compost bins into a central sorting station which is then serviced by custodial staff. To read about the switch to centralized collection from 2014, click here. To request a tiny trash bin, email [email protected]
