Celebrate the life and achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

UMD will host the 27th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Breakfast on Monday, Jan. 16. It will be held in the Kirby Ballroom, 1120 Kirby Drive, from 7:30–9 am. During the Breakfast, speakers will be televised live from the MLK event in Minneapolis.
Keynote Speaker: Myrlie Evers-Williams
This year's keynote speaker is Myrlie Evers-Williams, author and civil rights activist. She was the wife of murdered civil rights activist Medgar Evers. While fighting to bring his killer to justice, she also continued her husband's work with her book, For Us, The Living. Evers-Williams also wrote Watch Me Fly: What I Learned on the Way to Becoming the Woman I Was Meant to Be. She served as chair of the NAACP from 1995 to 1998.

Special Guest: Michael L. Lomax, Ph.D.
Since 2004, Dr. Michael Lomax has been president and chief executive officer of UNCF, the nation’s largest private provider of scholarships and other educational support to African American students and a leading advocate of college readiness.

Special Guests: Vocal Essence
A choir of cities youth will perform with Melanie DeMore. They will perform “Lift Every Voice” and Happy Birthday Dr. King.

The MLK March and Rally in downtown Duluth follows the Breakfast. Transportation will be provided from UMD to the event and back again. Meet in the UMD Bus Hub at 10:15 am.
