Word Girl, the title character in the long-running PBS series, will visit Preschool in the Park on Wednesday, November 16 from 10 – 11 a.m. Preschool in the Park is in the former Chester Park Elementary School building, 31 West College Street.
Dannah Phirman voices the title character, and she’ll be joined by her embodiment, PBS 8’s Word Girl mascot.
The Preschool in the Park appearance is sponsored by UMD’s Commission for Women, a group dedicated to enriching the working environment for women at UMD.
Commission member Elizabeth Hill says they chose Word Girl’s Dannah Phirman as the keynote speaker at their annual luncheon and decided to extend the invitation to Preschool in the Park.
“Words are powerful, and we have the ability to create an inclusive campus every time we speak,” says Hill. “So the idea with Word Girl is everyone can be a superhero to someone when they use kind words.”
UMD’s Commission for Women’s annual luncheon happens after the Preschool in the Park visit, at noon in the Kirby Ballroom.
