Get Out the (Bulldog) Vote

Voterpalooza happening today.

Voterpalooza is happening in the Kirby Garage Kirby Student Center, 1120 Kirby Drive, today, Tuesday, September 24, from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. It's organized by the Minnesota Public Interest Research Group (MPIRG) and UMD Student Association in partnership with UMD’s College Republicans, College Democrats, and the Political Science Association (PSA).

The goal of the Voterpalooza is to eliminate barriers that prevent young people from voting. For example, registration forms are available and attendees’ completed forms will be sent to the Minnesota Secretary of State for them.

Champ, a photo booth, music by KUMD, and refreshments are mixed into the business side of Voterpalooza to help engage Bulldogs.

Stine Myrah is the MPIRG Duluth Organizing Director. She says students don’t always realize the power they have through their vote. “It’s important that we step up and take charge of our future, and voting is an easy way to do this.” Myrah adds that it’s especially important this year during the City Council race – which directly impacts students on issues such as parking off campus.

Last year MPIRG registered over 1,500 students to vote, and they are hoping to reach this goal again this year.
