UMD’s Air Force ROTC (AFROTC) program is posting watch for 24-hours this Veterans Day, Friday November 11, 2016. Cadets will be stationed at the flagpole outside the front entrance of the Darland Administration Building, 1049 University Drive.
Forty-five cadets will post watch, two at a time, from 12 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. this Friday. Their shifts range from a ½ hour to an hour.
They’re recognizing the men and women who have served, says AFROTC Captain Kylie Prachar. “Our cadets will stand in solemn reverence to honor and remember all who have sacrificed for the freedom of our great country.”
The 24-hour-watch tradition began in 1992, when UMD’s AFROTC cadets joined local veterans at the Veterans’ Memorial on the Lakewalk.
The AFROTC program was established in 1949 to train students to become Air Force officers. An aerospace studies minor is available through UMD’s Swenson College of Science and Engineering.
