UMD has been designated a 2015 Military Friendly School by Victory Media. This is the fifth year in a row that UMD has received this designation. The Military Friendly Schools designation is awarded to the top colleges, universities, community colleges, and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace military students and dedicate resources to ensure their success in the classroom and after graduation.
“It’s an honor for UMD to be recognized as a Military Friendly School. Our university is committed to serving the educational needs of our military veterans and active duty students, as well as those students who are enrolled in the U.S. Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program here on campus,” said Chancellor Lendley C. Black.
On Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11, UMD will host an open house in appreciation of its UMD veterans, military members, and their families. The event will be held in the Kirby Garden Room from 8:30–10:30 am. It is free and open to the public.
Also on November 11, Glensheen, the historic Congdon estate, is offering free Standard Tours for all veterans of the armed services, active service members, and their accompanied families. Tour hours on Wednesday, November 11, are 1–3 pm. Veterans of the armed services, active service members, and their accompanied family members can simply visit Glensheen’s ticket house and say that they are a veteran of the armed services or an active service member to receive free Standard Tour admission.
