That’s when Bulldogs from across generations and geographics are unifying their voices in celebration of UMD Homecoming 2018.
Parading Through Campus
UMD’s Homecoming Parade starts at 11 a.m. near the Darland Administration Building, 1049 University Drive. An estimated 35 groups, mostly student organizations, will travel down University Drive until they reach the intersection of Kirby Drive and West St. Marie Street.
The Duluth Transit Authority's new electric bus is one of the parade participants. This is the maiden voyage for the UMD-branded vehicle, as it will go from the parade into service for the cities of Duluth and Superior.
Local dance studios and the University for Seniors’ royal float also promise photo-worthy entries.
This is the third year the UMD Homecoming Parade has enjoyed a home field advantage, having moved from downtown Duluth to campus in 2016 to make it easier for Bulldogs to participate.
Tailgating Like It’s Their Job
Just a few hours after sunrise, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 13, the parking lots outside Malosky Stadium are being transformed into a tent city. The mayor is Champ and the only city ordinance is, “Ordinance 1947: All residents must be equipped with mittens (to protect against the Lake Superior breeze) and a fire in their belly, establishing maximum Bulldog pride.”
This Tailgating Tent City is being founded in order to harness enthusiasm before the 1:05 kickoff against Southwest Minnesota State.
