UMD Master of Tribal Administration and Governance Professor Tadd Johnson and student Rebecca Crooks Stratton spoke at the Minnesota House of Representatives Sovereignty Day.
Johnson and Crooks Stratton, who is the Secretary Treasurer of Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, spoke for two hours about the history of tribal sovereignty in Minnesota. They received a standing ovation at the conclusion of their presentation.
This is the first year that Minnesota Lawmakers have hosted Sovereignty Day, an effort to raise awareness about the state’s 11 federally-recognized sovereign nations.
