In 1993, UMD presented its first Diversity Summit and nearly every year since then has offered dynamic educational programming on issues of inequities and social justice.The annual all-day event, now called the Summit on Equity, Diversity and Multiculturalism, will offer over 40 sessions on Wed., Feb. 22, 2017. The summit
features 60-75 minute programs including interactive workshops, presentations, lectures, posters, films with discussion, and other educational formats.
Debby Irving, author of Waking Up White And Finding Myself in the Story of Race, is the keynote speaker and will present in the Kirby Ballroom at 4 pm. Tim Wise, a lecturer and writer on racism in America today, describes Irving’s work as “a brutally honest, unflinching exploration of race and personal identity told with heart by a truly gifted storyteller.”
