Erwin is a recipient of an honor based on four specific criteria: being an individual of sustained distinction in higher education as defined by donors and supporters; having served in leadership roles in NASPA, regionally or nationally; being recognized or remembered by colleagues, friends, students or student organizations for extraordinary service; and having significant lifetime contributions to higher education.
"It is a great honor to receive this recognition,” Erwin said. “I'm very fortunate to work in higher education and student affairs; and supporting students in their academic and personal success is very rewarding. I'm grateful for wonderful colleagues and amazing students, all of whom give me a tremendous amount of hope for the future!”
Erwin was one of 14 student life leaders to be designated as a 2016 Pillar of the Profession. She will be honored at the 2016 NASPA Annual Conference in Indianapolis, Ind. in March 2016.
Prior to becoming UMD's vice chancellor for student life and dean of students, Erwin served as vice president for student development and enrollment at Bemidji State University. NASPA is the leading association for the advancement, health, and sustainability of the student affairs profession. Their work provides high-quality professional development, advocacy, and research for 15,000 members in all 50 states, 25 countries, and 8 U.S. territories.
