Last Friday, Amsoil Arena, previously a winter hockey mecca, became UMD’s Springfest finale. Thousands of college students came from across the state to enjoy their favorite rap artist’s music.
Lights, dancing, and a good time are about all it takes to attend the Kirby Program Boards (KPB) biggest event of the year.
“It gets crazy,” junior Deisha Rodriguez, KPB’s Marketing and Publicity chair said while laughing.
UMD senior William Jaros is KPB Concerts Chair. He has brought world famous artists like Ludacris and Juicy-J to students for Springfest. This year, he awarded them with rap artist G-Eazy. “Around August we started to look for artists to perform, and narrowed it down in September, October,” Jaros said.
Jaros also plans a homecoming concert as well as other small concerts around campus while preparing for this one at the same time.
“Will planned this concert, we helped in the weeks leading up to it.” Rodriguez says. In addition to the concert, Rodriguez and other KPB members were putting on Springfest Week– with craft nights, movie showings and free food all week.
“The biggest satisfaction is the face of the students when they see artists or are just having a good time at a concert,” Jaros said smiling. “The artists always have a good time performing, too.”
This “end of the year kick-off” went according to plan. With help from the DECC staff, G-Eazy and his crew, KPB gave students another amazing way to end the year.
