Director of International Programs and Services Hired

Dr. Karl Markgraf is UMD’s new director of International Programs and Services. His first day on campus will be June 1, 2017.

Markgraf will lead the effort to empower students to become globally engaged citizens. International Programs and Services supports UMD’s strategic plan for internationalization through:

  • International Partnerships and Outreach
  • Study Abroad
  • Global Engagement

 “A great American university in the 21st century must have an ambitious and visible global agenda,” says Markgraf. “My top priorities are expanding opportunities for students to study, work, and volunteer abroad, growing and diversifying UMD’s international student population, and creating opportunities for faculty to become globally engaged.”

Fernando Delgado, Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, says he’s looking forward to Markgraf fostering growth through his expertise. “Dr. Markgraf brings a wealth of experience and will be an important voice and leader as UMD expands its international education profile.”

Previously Dr. Markgraf served as the Associate Vice President for International Affairs at Virginia Tech. Prior to that, he was the Director of the Center for International Education at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
