Holocaust Commemoration Event

Professor Emeritus Fred Amram shares his experiences on Thursday, November 10.

Professor Emeritus Fred Amram
The Baeumler Kaplan Holocaust Commemoration Committee will host Fred Amran on Thursday, November 10, from 7–8:30 pm in the Kathryn A. Martin Library Rotunda on the UMD campus. This event is free and open to the public. Parking is available at the pay lot across from Malosky Stadium. There are disability parking spaces outside the front door of the Kathryn A. Martin Library. Flexible seating is available in the library rotunda.

Fred Amram, Professor Emeritus, University of Minnesota Twin Cities Department of Communication and Creativity, will read excerpts from his recently published memoir, We’re in America Now:  A Survivor’s Stories (published by Holy Cow! Press), about his life as a Jewish child in Nazi Germany and as an émigré in the U.S. He was born in Germany in 1933. In November 1939, he and his family fled to New York City.

“We are thrilled that Professor Amram will be here to share his experiences. His story keeps the Holocaust–not only the event in history, but also the potential for its repetition–before everyone’s eyes. It’s especially poignant that he will be here on the 78th anniversary of Kristallnacht,” said Deborah Petersen-Perlman, associate professor, UMD Department of Communication, and chair of the Baeumler Kaplan Holocaust Commemoration Committee.

Professor Amram will be available to sign copies of his book before and after his talk.
