The Hazardous Mitigation Plan assesses the hazards that can affect our campuses and our vulnerabilities to those hazards. The plan focuses on reducing the risk of loss of life, injury, and property damage due to hazards such as high winds and severe storms.
This plan also identifies specific actions that can be undertaken to minimize or eliminate these vulnerabilities. These projects can be implemented as funding becomes available. This plan is a requirement for the University’s eligibility for federal mitigation grant programs.
Each year, millions of federal hazard mitigation grant dollars are made available to eligible applicants via programs such as the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) and the Pre-Disaster Mitigation Program (PDM). With an approved hazard mitigation plan, the University will become eligible for these competitive grant funds.
As part of the development process, and in compliance with 44 CFR, part 201, it is requested that the University community review the draft of this plan, and submit any comments or suggestions on the document. Access the draft plan by visiting: http://www.dem.umn.edu/news.
