College of Liberal Arts #FutureBulldogs at UMD

cla admitted day

More than 60 future Bulldogs will experience UMD during the College of Liberal Arts Admitted Student Day on Friday, February 12. It begins with a welcome from Chancellor Black at 10 a.m. and continues through closing at 2:25 p.m. Most of the activity takes place in the Kirby Ballroom, 1120 Kirby Drive.

A complete schedule can be found here.

Admitted Student Day is designed to give high school seniors an opportunity to experience the life of a Bulldog. They attend sessions from Housing and Residence Life, Study Abroad, Campus Police, and more. They also meet faculty, tour campus, and enjoy a student panel.

Dean Susan Maher says it’s more important than ever to cultivate liberal arts learning. “At a time when college education is itself questioned, we need more educated citizens who can see the big picture. And the liberal arts help deliver trained, creative, big picture people to many kinds of organizations.”

A recent Forbes article, “That 'Useless' Liberal Arts Degree Has Become Tech's Hottest Ticket” echoes Maher’s sentiments. It talks about how employers are looking for grads with liberal arts degrees, saying, “Throughout the major U.S. tech hubs, whether Silicon Valley or Seattle, Boston or Austin, Tex., software companies are discovering that liberal arts thinking makes them stronger.

The College of Liberal Arts (CLA) includes eleven departments, 25 majors, and 27 minors.

Each academic college hosts an Admitted Student Day.
