Equity, Race, and Ethnicity Summit

Being Antiracist, Doing Antiracism, a virtual conference at UMD, March 2-4.

The campus and community are invited to the UMD Commission on Equity, Race, and Ethnicity (CERE) virtual summit, "Being Antiracist, Doing Antiracism," from March 2-4, 2021.

This year's on-line summit will be held over three days, with the first two days featuring guest speakers and workshops on current issues in antiracism. The third day will offer a Racial Justice Organization Fair to highlight the work being done in Duluth and Minnesota Communities. The aim of the fair is to encourage participants to engage in concrete action.

Featured Speakers

Speakers will include featured speaker, Dr. Ibram X. Kendi, author of How to Be an Antiracist and Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America, as well as presentation by Tim Wise, author of White Like Me: Reflections on Race from a Priviledged Son and Dear White America: Letter to a New Minority.

A welcome and opening talk will be presented by Tim Wise, author of White Like Me and Dear White America, at 10 am on Tuesday, March 2. Wise is known as the most prominent anti-racist writers and educators in the United States.

On Wednesday, Mar 3, at 10 am, Professor Ibram X. Kendi will hold a virtual conversation about the urgent issues of race, equity, and justice in America today. Kendi, one of the nation’s foremost historians and leading antiracist voices. Kendi is the author of Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America; How to Be an Antiracist; Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You, co-authored with Jason Reynolds; Antiracist Baby; The Black Campus Movement; and most recently, alongside Dr. Keisha N. Blain, the newly released Four Hundred Souls, a choral history of African America covering four hundred years in the voices of ninety writers..

Creativity Exhibit

The images of the We All Belong Creativity Exhibit will be projected in an outdoor display at UMD from 6-9 pm from March 2-4. This all-campus student art show, with art, poetry, and video, is also focused around the theme: Being Antiracist, Doing Antiracism.
