March 2017 news from UMD's Center for Economic Development.

Zoey M. Hassett, UMD CED program coordinator, obtained a Social Media Marketing Certification. This certification was offered through the Small Business Academy and focused on various social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc., and how to navigate marketing from a business standpoint.

Mary Lundeen, SBDC business consultant, instructed a workshop titled “Starting a Business in Minnesota” at the Workforce Development Center. This workshop focused on the first stages of developing a business, financial analysis, and licensing requirements in the state of Minnesota. 

Betsy Olivanti, SBDC business consultant, obtained a Business Incubator Management Certification.

UMD CED partnered with National Bank of Commerce and others to present the Regional Economic Indicators Forum Breakfast at the DECC. This spring’s topic was Collaborative Marketing for Tourism and Economic Development. The keynote speaker was AnnDee Johnson, VP Longwoods International.

UMD CED celebrated national Small Business Development Center Day on March 22, 2017. Gov. Dayton proclaimed March 22 as SBDC Day in order to recognize the important role that SBDCs play in supporting more than 500,000 small businesses in the state of Minnesota. Last year, the UMD CED worked with nearly 1,000 businesses in Northeast and Northwest Minnesota with 70% of those businesses being outside of the Duluth area. Click this link to view the story.
