More Dogs in the House

Welcome Week starts with more Bulldogs than in previous years.

New freshman enrollment is up more than five percent from last year, with more than 2,250 scheduled to start at UMD this fall. This compares with 2,138 in 2016 and 1,997 in 2015.

“This is the culmination of more campus visits and successful recruitment efforts,” says Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Fernando Delgado. “We’re looking forward to a robust school year with this impressive group, who is bringing new energy and inspiration to UMD.”

The academic profile of UMD freshman continues to be strong, with an average grade point average of 3.5 and ACT composite score of 24.

Overall campus enrollment becomes official a few weeks after classes start, but Mary Keenan, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Strategic Enrollment & Institutional Research, says it’s estimated at 11,200 total undergraduate, graduate, professional and non-degree students. Last year’s total was 11,018.

Nearly all Bulldogs, 86 percent, are from Minnesota.

With Open Arms

Bulldog Welcome Week starts on Tuesday, August 22 and continues through Saturday, August 26.

It’s designed to let new students feel what it’s like to be a Bulldog, meet new friends, and connect with campus and student organizations.

Facilitating all this is a team of RockStars, 130 students who lead their RockGroups in activities ranging from orientations to pep rallies and everything in between.

The complete schedule

The first day of classes is Monday, August 28.
