UMD’s Muslim Student Association is hosting “Addressing Islamophobia,” a student panel, on Tuesday, March 21 at 6 p.m. in the Kirby Rafters, 1120 Kirby Drive. It’s free and open to the public and refreshments will be provided.
The event begins with a Muslim student panel and is followed by a solidarity panel, consisting of students with multiple faiths discussing how the groups can be better allies for one another.
Muslim Student Association member Azin Awal says she’s faced prejudice due to misconceptions about her faith, and believes it’s important to speak out against injustice. “By coming together in solidarity, we bridge the gap and create a better society for all.”
Awal is partnering with the Minnesota Public Research Interest Group (MPRIG) in presenting the panel, and the Muslim Student Association is a co-sponsor. “It was an amazing experience– being able to collaborate with so many different people and plan an event that strengthens our bonds with each other.
The Muslim Students Association is a religious and social student organization that seeks to network the Muslim students on campus and serve as their voice in the community.”
