On Election Day, Bulldogs are making sure students are engaged.

UMD students are getting fellow Bulldogs fired up about democracy on election day, Tuesday, November 6, 2018.

The “Ask Me” Booth is being set up in the “garage” (stage) area of the Kirby Student Center, 1120 Kirby Drive, from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. The both is sponsored by MPRIG, The Bark, and Kirby Program Board and is staffed with students who’ve been trained to answer voting questions like eligibility, where to vote, polling hours, and bus routes.

Upstairs in the Rafters, MPRIG and the Kirby Student Center are hosting a non-partisan voting party from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. “We’re celebrating the power of their vote while engaging other students who might not be eligible to vote or wouldn’t normally cast a ballot,” says MPIRG’s Mary Franz.

Franz says that in 2012, UMD had 10,627 students enrolled with 8,584 eligible to vote, but only 4,582 voted. This year, Franz and her team are hoping that 60% of eligible voters cast their ballot. “I care so much because or future is on the line and we don’t have any more time to mess around.”
