Research Help Online

Getting help with your research during the online period has never been easier!

With classes now completely online, you might be wondering “how can I get research help?” This might be the case especially since we’re already closing in on the end of the semester. Not to worry, we have you covered!  Here are some helpful tips for getting in touch with a librarian.

You have a designated subject librarian.

All of our librarians serve as liaisons to specific programs. This means that that specific librarian is familiar with the courses available, the faculty, and the coursework, and they have likely worked in the classroom with your professors. This ensures that they can better help you find the resources you need.

You can find a list of librarians by subject here: https://lib.d.umn.edu/research-collections/librarians-subject

While each program does have a designated librarian, this doesn’t mean that our other librarians can’t help you with general questions, as a matter of fact, we are still holding “Research Help” hours but have moved online. Check out our Research Help:

It’s easy to get in touch with a librarian.

We offer multiple ways to get in touch with our librarians for help: and no question is too big or small!  Sometimes simply talking things out with someone can help us move closer to narrowing down that research topic, finding a specific resource, etc.

You can e-mail us: [email protected]

You can chat with a librarian 24/7 online: https://lib.d.umn.edu/research-collections/askus

You can also set up a Zoom or Hangouts meeting with us: e-mail us at [email protected] or contact your subject librarian directly to set up a video meeting.

I am a faculty member, can I still get help?

Of course!  We’re still here for you, too. Reach out to your subject librarian or e-mail us at [email protected]

I have questions about copyright and publishing.

We can help with that too!  Contact our Scholarly Communications Librarian, Jodi Carlson Grebinoski at [email protected] or by phone at 218.726.7880.
