New Mac Anti-Virus Client Coming

SentinelOne is being tested. Installation will be automated with little to no interaction required.

Current Software Discontinued

The University of MN has long leveraged System Center Endpoint Protection (SCEP) as the Anti-Virus client of choice for OSX devices. In October 2018, Microsoft announced that they would discontinue support of the OSX version of SCEP in March 2019.

New Software: SentinelOne

Following this announcement, ITSS and UMN's Office of Information Technology (OIT) collaborated on identifying a new Anti-Virus client for the OSX platform. After months of reviewing different products, it was decided that SentinelOne would be the Anti-Virus client for OSX devices moving forward.

SentinelOne's Roll Out

ITSS is currently in the process of testing the deployment of SentinelOne. It will be automated, with little to no interaction required from the end user. The automated process will remove SCEP and install SentinelOne. However, a reboot will be required to complete the installation. Any OSX devices already enrolled in JAMF will automatically get the update. OSX devices not enrolled in JAMF will need to be enrolled in JAMF in order to get the new Anti-Virus client. ITSS/OIT will not be providing the client as a stand alone install at this time.

Communication Plan

ITSS will be in communication with the Academic Technologists on when the deployments will begin. The goal is to have the new client pushed to all OSX devices by the end of March 2019.

Additional ITSS Infotech.News articles will be published with information on the status of the SentinelOne roll out.
