The Art Pulford Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Mandy Kurosky and Jager Mitchell
Mandy is a senior Criminology student, with a minor in Sociology. She is on the UMD volleyball team and spends her free time working at Bethel Work Release Center and hanging out with her best friend and chocolate lab, Murphy. She plans to pursue a career in law enforcement after graduating.
Jager is a sophomore pursuing a double major in Criminology and Latin American Area Studies. He also attends Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College in Cloquet for Law Enforcement. Jager plans to use his education to support police-community relations with Hispanics in the southern United States.
The Bruce Mork Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Carly Madden
Carly is a junior majoring in Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies and minoring in Sociology and French. At UMD, she spends her time working on feminist/women's issues and fighting for social justice through her internship with the Women's Resource and Action Center (WRAC) and as a leader in the Minnesota Public Interest Research Group (MPRIG).
The James L. Otto Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Shawn Pierce
Shawn is a junior pursuing a double major in Criminology and Psychology. He also attends Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College for his Law Enforcement Associates degree. Shawn enjoys camping, hiking, and running with his dog.
The John A. Arthur Memorial Award was presented to Bukola Ibitoye
Bukola, a junior from Coon Rapids, is majoring in Chemistry with a minor in African and African American Studies. She is actively involved with the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) as an e-board member and she enjoys reading and learning new languages in her free time. After graduation, she hopes to go to law school.
The Outstanding Student in Anthropology Award was presented to Eva Weir
Eva is a nontraditional, first-generation college student majoring in Anthropology with a History minor. She loves anthropology because it gives her the tools to investigate our cultural world and implement positive change.
The Robert E. Franz Scholarship was awarded to Chris Edyvean
Chris is a senior majoring in Sociology and Criminology from Hurley, WI. Chris has a passion for sports and next year will be his last as a student-athlete at UMD. In his free time, Chris likes to get outdoors as much as possible and spend quality time with his family.
The Walter Baeumler Award in Criminology was presented to Mikayla Allison
Mikayla is a junior majoring in Criminology and Psychology. She plans on attending graduate school after completing her bachelor's degree and ultimately would love to become an expert witness on cases involving the insanity plea.
The Jane Maddy Book Award was presented to Lexi Finnegan and Sara Minder
Lexi, a sophomore from Savage, Minn., is majoring in Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies and International Studies. She is actively involved with the community and enjoys having a cup of coffee in her spare time. After graduation she hopes to go on to law school to become a human rights lawyer.
Sara, a junior from Robbinsdale, Minn. is majoring in Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies and Political Sciene with a certificate in Business Administration. She is actively involved with NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota, Student Advocates for Choice at UMD, the Women's Resource & Action Center, and the UMD Marching and pep bands. After graduation she hopes to pursue a career working for a non-profit or feminist organization. She also hopes to run for office someday.
The Women's Studies Legacy Award was presented to Audrey Baumgartner
Audrey, a junior from New Brighton, Minn., is double majoring in Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies and Political Science with a minor in Communication. She is actively involved with PAVSA and the Women's Resource & Action Center at UMD. She enjoys reading in her free time. After graduation, she hopes to go on to law school to pursue a career as a county or state prosecutor.
