Ever wanted to know why you’re attracted to certain people and not others? UMD's Department of Communication, College of Liberal Arts, will host a talk by Dr. Lance Rintamaki entitled "The Science of Attraction" on Thursday, April 12 from noon-1 pm in the Kirby Rafters. This event is free and open to all.
Research over the last three decades has increased our understanding of how attraction works, including a myriad of social and biological factors that operate largely without you knowing. In this presentation, we’ll be hitting some of the most provocative and far-reaching science on social and sexual attraction, giving you cues as to how to make that person you’re interested in take an interest in you right back.
Rintamaki is an associate professor and director of Undergraduate Studies at the University at Buffalo, where he also serves as an Honor’s College Faculty Fellow. He earned his PhD at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He completed post-doctoral fellowships in Internal Medicine and Health Services research, leading to research lines focused on provider-patient communication and the management of chronic illness. More recently, Rintamaki’s work has expanded to cover the science of attraction, including clinical biomarkers that drive social attraction, sexual interest and sexual decision-making.
