Assistant Professor Whitney Jacobson, in the Department of English, Linguistics, and Writing Studies (ELWS), has recently published three poems and a creative nonfiction essay, with four other poems also accepted for publication in the coming months.
The online literary journal Up North Lit published Jacobson’s poems “Baby Bird,” “Brontide,” and “Woebegone” in February. The poems explore the theme of disturbance.
“Car Tracks,” a creative nonfiction essay by Jacobson, was published in April within the sixth edition of The Thunderbird Review, a literary and arts anthology produced by Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College. The personal essay centers on grief experienced when preparing to sell her mother’s car.
Jacobson’s creative work is published under her family name of Whitney Walters. Common themes of her writing include grief, inheritance, water, feminism, and childhood.
Additional works forthcoming by Jacobson in 2018 are four poems: “Deliquescing Firmament” (co-written with Nayt Rundquist) in Up North Lit; “Ich bedauere...(I regret...)” in the Same; “Old Souls” in DASH; and “Vis Major” in Fearsome Critters.
Jacobson currently teaches WRIT 1006: Journal and Memoir Writing, which is offered every two years in the spring, in addition to regularly teaching College Writing and various Advanced Writing courses. Jacobson also is an assistant editor for Split Rock Review.
