Beard, a faculty member in the Department of English, Linguistics, and Writing Studies (ELWS), presented on "acousmatic listening," a special kind of listening that begins when a person doesn't know from where or from whom the voice or sound is coming. He presented alongside other scholars of listening, including an existential psychotherapist committed to listening and several scholars in Communication Studies committed to listening.
IADA was established in 1990. The notion of dialogue is central for its scientific profile. It is however not restricted to a specific view of dialogue nor to a particular model but covers the whole range of language use. Linguists, literary scholars, philosophers, sociologists, psychologists and scholars from other disciplines interested in dialogic issues are called upon to join the dialogic circle.
