Center for Restorative Justice and Peacemaking at UMD

Join center Director Mark Umbreit on Monday, Oct. 1 at 3:30 in Griggs Center. 

 

Since its formation in 1994 in the Twin Cities under the leadership of Dr. Mark Umbreit, The Center for Restorative Justice & Peacemaking has led the way in providing research, consultation guidance, and training for restorative justice practitioners and programs worldwide.

The Center for Restorative Justice & Peacemaking has established a second site at UMD, to expand the scope of its work across communities. The UMD site director is Dr. Emily Gaarder, associate professor of Criminology, Sociology, and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies

Please join Center Director Mark Umbreit for "Restorative Justice in the 21st Century: A Social Movement in the Global Community" on Monday, Oct 1 at 3:30 in Griggs Center. 

The focus of the Center's work is the promotion of peacemaking through dialogue. The Center consider's dialogue to be a centerpiece in the resolution of crimes, conflicts, or traumatic incidents. The Center aims to provide research and resources for individuals, organizations, and agencies seeking restorative methods to address harm and conflict.

In its first year, the UMD site will build its vision with the help of community partners. Please join us with your ideas and energy!
