Anger as a Feminist Methodology for Cultural Studies

Australian feminist scholar Professor Carole Ferrier, University of Queensland, Brisbane, will speak Oct. 16, 5 pm in H470.

From the Women’s Marches around the world, gun violence,  # Me Too movement, climate change, family segregation to a shifting media landscape that has enabled contradictory dynamics, we are witnessing how feminism and queer movements are no longer restricted to academic space and have taken new shapes and new meanings in the public sphere.

On October 16, 2018 at 5 pm in Humanities 470, we will have a transnational interactive discussion on "Is Your Feminism Angry Enough: Anger as a Feminist Methodology for Cultural Studies!" with Australian feminist scholar Carole Ferrier, University of Queensland, Brisbane.

In this session with Professor Ferrier, we seek to address these dynamics through a multifaceted and interdisciplinary discussion on:

1) How does changing media create new risks for feminist discourse or feminist individuals?
2) Is anger still a relevant Feminist Methodology and how do race, masculinity, femininity, class, religion and nation influence the depiction and interpretation of anger as a methodology?
3) How has feminism either challenged or contributed to the concept of publicness itself?
4) How do nonfeminist forces shape what circulates in the name of feminism, and how can feminists combat it?
5) To what extent are new languages necessary to shifting public discourses about feminism?

This event is free and open to all.
