Setting the Stage

School of Fine Arts Advisement and Registration scheduled.

UMD is welcoming incoming School of Fine Arts students at Advisement and Registration on Monday, August 14, 2017.

The day starts at 8:30 a.m. in the Marshall Performing Arts Center, 1215 Ordean Court.  Students will check in, snap a picture in the Champ photo booth, and enjoy welcome speeches in the theatre before starting their orientation and registration. Activities wrap up at 4 p.m.

UMD Integration

Advisement and Registration is required for all new UMD students so that they can connect with other UMD students, meet with an academic advisor, register for classes, and learn about campus resources. They are held throughout the summer for incoming students in each college: School of Fine Arts, College of Liberal Arts, Swenson College of Science and Engineering, College of Education and Human Service Professions, and Labovitz School of Business and Economics.

This is the first time that many of the incoming students have been on campus since they’ve been admitted to UMD, so program coordinators put a lot of thought into planning a panorama of a day that fully integrates the new Bulldogs. “Advisement and Registration is much more than getting a class schedule,” says Emily Borra, program coordinator of Advisement & Registration. “It’s experiencing being part of our community and feeling like UMD is home.”

Focus on the Arts

The School of Fine Arts is a unique community featuring music, theatre, dance, graphic arts, and studio arts.

Stacy Crawford is the director of School of Fine Arts (SFA) Advising & Academic Services. She says Advisement and Registration sets the tone for the collaboration that happens for SFA majors. For example, music majors break off and meet with a music professor, allowing them to form connections with the people they’ll be learning with. “We provide a setting that ignites creativity and nurtures curiosity.”
