UMD is hosting a holiday event at the Steve O’Neil Apartments.

The Department of Education, University Honors, and America Reads & Counts are partnering with Churches United in Ministry (CHUM) to present holiday giving at the Steve O’Neil Apartments, which offer permanent housing for families that have experienced chronic or recurring homelessness at 115 West Fourth Street

On Friday, December 8 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m., they’re offering the 44 families living at the Steve O’Neil Apartments an opportunity to pick out gifts to give to someone special.

The gifts have been donated, and the students will be on hand to help the children with the wrapping and to make sure that every family member is able to choose gifts for their loved ones.

“The season of giving will be felt by so many,” says organizer and Associate Professor Molly Harney. “Students donating, staff reaching out, a child giving a gift to a parent, and a community coming together to bring the spirit of the season to life.”

Harney says that there will be hundreds of unwrapped items- from toys to pjs, for babies through grandparents.
