Solar eclipse viewing at UMD Planetarium

Marshall W. Alworth Planetarium to host safe viewing of Ring of Fire Eclipse

Observe the eclipse with the experts!

On Saturday, October 14th, the Marshall W. Alworth Planetarium at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) will host a viewing party from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. for people to safely see the partial annular solar eclipse, sometimes called the Ring of Fire Eclipse. This is a rare type of eclipse, which won’t happen again in the contiguous US until 2046. The Planetarium’s solar telescopes and eclipse glasses (while supplies last) will be available for viewing. Participants will be able to learn from experts while they safely observe the eclipse. Duluth is outside the path of totality, so this will be a partial annular eclipse, with approximately 30-50% visible from Duluth.

The event will be outside. If it's cloudy, a livestream of the eclipse will be playing in the Planetarium.
