Major/Minors:

Majoring in psychology with minors in cognitive science and early childhood studies.

Why did you choose UMD?

I was drawn to UMD because of how connected the community is with each other and especially with nature. Then, I fell in love with the psychology program and the people within it!

What do you like most about your programs?

The psychology program has given me so much support and guidance. I have been able to learn, work, and explore the field of psychology in such a nuanced way I don’t think I could find elsewhere. It helps that the faculty members are trained in mental health services, so they understand the ins and outs of what it takes to be a full-time student!

What has been your most meaningful experience at UMD so far?

Being able to work closely with professors here on campus. I have been loving my experience working in the Mind-Body Trauma Care Lab with Professor Viann Nguyen-Feng. Also, I participated in a Community of Practice titled Deepening Empathy through Indigenous Perspectives, led by Professor Julie Ernst and Master of Environmental Education graduate student Claire Curran. I have learned so much from these individuals and I am looking forward to continuing this work in the coming year!

What advice do you have for incoming students?

Take your time. Don’t be afraid to say yes to an opportunity but also don’t be afraid to say no when you already have too much on your plate. Take your time, honor yourself and what you are accomplishing!

What do you like to do in your free time?

When I am not working as a barista or receptionist at a behavioral health center, I love to be outside near Lake Superior. I love practicing yoga, reading, and hanging out with the people I love most!
