UMD’s Recent Fulbright Scholars

Since 1949, 53 students and 26 scholars from UMD have received a combined 84 Fulbright awards and grants.

U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs named the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) a Fulbright Top Producing Institution for U.S. Scholars in 2023. This recognition is given to the U.S. colleges and universities that received the highest number of applicants selected for the 2022-23 Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program. Since 1949, 53 students and 26 scholars from UMD have received a combined 84 Fulbright awards and grants.

Associate Professor Ryan Bergstrom (geography) lectured and conducted research on “Place attachment and climate-driven change on the Baltic coastline of Sweden” at Kristianstad University, Kristianstad, Sweden. 2023-24

Professor Scott Laderman (history) received the Distinguished Scholar Award in American Studies and lectured and conducted research on “The Global Antiwar Movement” at Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden. 2023-24

Associate Professor Igor Melnykov (mathematics) lectured and conducted research on “Statistical Aspects of Machine Learning in Kazakhstan” at Nazarbayev University in Astana, Kazakhstan. 2022-2023

Associate Professor Linda Rochford (marketing) was awarded the Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation Award for “Overcoming Barriers and Borders to Innovation” at the Letterkenny Institute of Technology, Letterkenny, Ireland. 2020-2021

Associate Professor John Hatcher (journalism) was a lecturer on “International Perspectives on Community Journalism” at Ho Chi Minh City University of the Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. 2019-2020
