September 2017 news from faculty and staff of the College of Pharmacy Duluth.

Keri D. Hager, associate professor and Heather L. Blue, assistant professor, L. Zhang, and Laura C. Palombi, assistant professor: Poster OPIOIDS: Cultivating Interprofessional Collaboration to Find Solutions to Public Health Problems.

Hager and Palombi presented the group's interprofessional case-based activity with the medical and pharmacy students in Duluth at the Nexus Summit Resource Exchange held August 22, 2017, in Minneapolis. The Nexus Summit is the annual conference hosted by the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education.

C. Kolar, V. Losinski, and Hager had their article, “Beyond the pharmacists’ patient care process: Cultivating patient care practitioners by utilizing the pharmaceutical care framework,” published in the journal Innovation in Pharmacy 2017;8(3): Article 7.

Sha Yang, representing Gardner Lepp, education program specialist 2, and Kerry Fierke, associate professor, presented "Intention/Reflection (I/R) Practice in Pharmacy Education at the Minnesota eLearning Summit held August 2-3, 2017, in Bloomington.

Olihe N. Okoro, assistant professor, and S. O. Whitson, had their article, “HIV risk and barriers to care for African-born immigrant women: A sociocultural outlook,” published in the International Journal of Women’s Health 2017;9:421–429. doi: 10.2147/IJWH.S129355.

Palombi had her article, “Facilitating community engagement in academic pharmacy careers,” published in the journal Innovation in Pharmacy 2017;8(3): Article 6.

Paul Ranelli, professor, is featured in the August 2, 2017, MinnPost story, "Exhibition examines medication's role in everyday life."

Tim Stratton, professor, has been reappointed as Affiliate Faculty in the Center for Bioethics for another three-year term (2017-2020).

B. Rohrer and Stratton had their article, “Continuum of care for inmates taking psychiatric medications while incarcerated in Minnesota county jails,” published in the Journal of Correctional Health Care 2017 Aug. doi: 10.1177/1078345817727283. 

C. A. St. Hill, Mike T. Swanoski, associate professor, M. S. Lipsky, and M. N. Lutfiyya had their article, “A population-based, cross-sectional study examining health services deficits of US veterans using 2014 behavioral risk factor surveillance system data: Is rural residency an independent risk factor after controlling for multiple covariates?” published in Healthcare 2017 Jul 31;5(3):39. doi: 10.3390/healthcare5030039.

Megan Undeberg, assistant professor, had her article, “Executive order 9066 and the corner drugstore of 1940,” published in History of Pharmacy Special Interest Group (SIG) Newsletter: Pharmacy Chronicles Past, Present, and Future. 2017 May.
