Art & Design's Annual Student Exhibition runs through April 29, 2018 at the Tweed Museum of Art. This is an exhibition of work executed by UMD students and juried by visiting artists. This year’s jurors are Don Clark—artist and cofounder of Invisible Creature in Seattle—and George Slade—consultant, curator, writer, art historian from Minneapolis.

The Annual Student Exhibition features nearly 100 pieces by more than 50 students working in a range of media including: animation, ceramics, digital art, drawing, gaming, graphic design, motion graphics, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and video. The exhibition's graphic design was created, in collaboration with the Tweed Museum of Art, by students currently enrolled in graphic design courses at UMD.

On Saturday, April 21 from 4–6 pm, join students, faculty, staff and community members at the Annual Student Show Reception. Help celebrate the students’ work; enjoy music and refreshments; then stay for the awards ceremony at 5 pm.

Also on Saturday, April 21 from 1-4 pm, UMD’s Department of Art and Design will open its doors to the public. Come view student work and tour our facilities. Open Studio is perfect for all ages and fun for families!

Open Studio includes classroom tours, demonstrations, hands-on activities, live music, and a sale of affordable student art work. The studios are located in AB Anderson Hall, Montague Hall, and the Humanities Building at 1201 Ordean Court on the University of Minnesota Duluth campus. Open Studio is a joint effort created by Art & Design majors and a number of student groups.

Students will display creative work and demo various art processes such as ceramics wheel throwing (with prizes!), CNC (Computer Numeric Control) machine demonstrations, digital art techniques, make-your-own mantra cards and glitter-projects. The public is invited to take part in a glow-stick photo booth, explore art education activities, browse the Affordable Art Sale, and treat themselves to a snack. Student work from all art and design areas will be on display, including the senior portfolios of the UMD Graphic Design majors.  This is an excellent time to check-out the VIZ and MMAD labs.

Bring your discerning eye, a creative spirit, and join us on April 21st at all of the UMD Department of Art & Design events where we have fun down to a fine art!
