Pogemiller will tour construction of the Heikkila Chemistry and Advanced Materials Science Building (HCAMS) at 11 a.m. The group will meet in the lobby of the Darland Administration Building, 1049 University Drive, before walking across the street to HCAMS.

HCAMS was the University of Minnesota System's top building priority when UMD initially made request for funding in 2016, but the Legislature didn't pass any bonding bills during that session.

In May, 2017 Governor Mark Dayton approved a bonding bill that included $28.3 million for HCAMS.

John Rashid, Director of Facilities Management, says construction is on schedule and expected to be completed in January, 2019.

Current Bonding Request

Governor Dayton’s proposed bonding bill includes full funding for the U of M’s $238.5-million capital request. UMD’s portion is $28.1 million:

  • $17.9-million in Higher Education Asset Preservation and Replacement (HEAPR) projects.

    • Chemistry Building, $8,500,000

    • Humanities Building, $8,500,000

    • Ward Wells Field House, $906,500

  • $6.2-million for AB Anderson Hall (Greater Minnesota Academic Renewal)

  • $4-million for Glensheen, the historic Congdon Estate

Pogemiller will tour the Chemistry Building, the Humanities Building, and AB Anderson Hall, from about 11:30 a.m. - 12 p.m., directly after his HCAMS tour.

He’ll start his Duluth visit at Glensheen, 3300 London Road, around 10:15 a.m.
