Dan Hartman, director of Glensheen Mansion, received the Rising Star of the Year Award at the 2018 Explore Minnesota Tourism Conference. This award recognizes individuals who have joined Minnesota’s tourism industry within the last five years, have exhibited the skills and abilities to excel in the tourism industry, are mindful of their role in making the state a better place to visit, and are passionate about promoting travel and tourism in Minnesota.
Hartman and his staff have developed numerous tours and programs designed to not only entice people to visit Glensheen, but keep them coming back time and time again. These include Flashlight Tours, Nooks and Crannies, Servants Tour, Kayka Tours, free Concerts on the Pier in July, and Shark Watching Society Bonfires in August, to name just a few.
In December 2014, Hartman was selected as the director of Glensheen Mansion, after serving as the interim director since May 2013. Before that he was commissioner of the Duluth Economic Development Authority from 2012-14. He served as president, vice president and councilor on the Duluth City Councilor. He was program curator of Veterans’ Memorial Hall of the St. Louis County Historical Society. He served on the Duluth Public Utilities Commission and was a board member on Visit Duluth as well as Neighborhood Housing Services.
Daniel was selected as Young Professional of the Year by the Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce in 2010 and as one of “20 Under 40” by the Duluth News Tribune in 2009. He earned a master’s degree in Advocacy and Political Leadership from UMD in 2009. As an undergraduate at UMD, he was the recipient of the Sieur Du Luth Award in 2005.
